Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) campaigners are gathering messages for the Lithuanian government and key decision-makers. These messages emphasize the critical importance of Lithuania's continued commitment to the Convention on Cluster Munitions and warn against the serious consequences of withdrawal. We've created a public platform where anyone can voice their concerns and present arguments opposing Lithuania's potential withdrawal from the Convention.

What are the campaigners saying?

Alma: “The aim of the Convention on Cluster Munitions is to protect civilians from these deadly weapons. We should stand by our commitment to humanitarian principles.”
Ahmad: “Cluster munitions have been banned in over 100 countries because they cause indiscriminate harm. Lithuania should not take a step backward.”

Rimantas: “Withdrawing from the Convention will not only harm Lithuania’s international standing but also endanger lives. Our future generations deserve better.”

Simonas: “As a concerned youth, I urge Lithuania to stay committed to the Convention. The withdrawal will undermine years of progress in protecting civilians from cluster munitions.”

Emma: “Please reconsider your proposed actions. The safety and protection of humanity should always come first. Stay with the Convention on Cluster Munitions.”

Hugo: “Cluster munitions pose a severe risk to civilians, especially children. Lithuania must think about the long-term consequences of this decision.”

Raed: "In the future, wars will end, armies will leave and peace will reign, but the ugliness of cluster bombs will remain as a witness to the ugliness of humanity".

On July 18, 2024, the Lithuanian parliament voted to officially withdraw from the Convention on Cluster Munitions. Following this decision, there is now a six-month waiting period before the withdrawal takes full effect. During this crucial time, the CMC and its partners will intensify their efforts to engage with Lithuanian officials, with the hope to persuade them to reconsider and potentially reverse this decision.

We encourage concerned individuals to contribute their thoughts and appeals on our dedicated platform. These messages will be collected and delivered to Lithuanian politicians and key decision-makers, providing a powerful collective voice in support of Lithuania's continued participation in the Convention. Your input could play a vital role in this important humanitarian issue.
