Overview

A diverse delegation of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) will take part in the 22nd Meeting of States Parties (MSP) to the Mine Ban Treaty in Geneva. This comes at a critical moment for the treaty, as it faces unprecedented challenges, including one State Party’s attempt to unlawfully suspend its membership, the recent withdrawal of five states, and heavy use of landmines in current conflicts.

At this pivotal meeting, the ICBL will be calling on states to:

  • Reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the treaty's core humanitarian principles and the total ban on landmines.
  • Unambiguously state that suspension is not permitted under the treaty, making it clear that the treaty provisions apply to all States Parties under any circumstances.
  • Express deep regret about the unprecedented withdrawal of five States Parties and call on them to recommit to the treaty.
  • Publicly condemn any use of anti-personnel mines by any actor, anywhere, under any circumstances.
Accelerate efforts in mine clearance and victim assistance to fulfill promises made to affected communities.

Join the ICBL at our side events during the MSP week. We invite you to engage with us directly through a series of events designed to inform and inspire action:
