2024 MBT Intersessional Meetings
Treaty Intersessional and Preparatory Meetings
Important stop on the way to the 5th Rev Con
The 2024 Intersessional Meetings of the Mine Ban Treaty was held from June 18-20, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. This will be followed by the First Preparatory Meeting for the treaty’s 5th Review Conference that will take place later this year in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
This gathering is an important opportunity for states ahead of the 5th Review Conference in November to:
• Provide updates on national progress and challenges in implementing the treaty or on steps towards accession
• Exchange views on critical issues including the recent use of antipersonnel mines
• Contribute to substantive discussions related to the 5th Review Conference and its outcome documents and decisions.
The ICBL will actively participate and contribute throughout the meetings, urging states to redouble their efforts aimed at implementation and universalization of the treaty and enhancing global respect for its norms, while working towards meaningful 5th Review Conference.
The ICBL is calling on all states to:
- Condemn any use of antipersonnel mines, by anyone, under any circumstances and call for immediate halt to all use.
- Report on recent work and future plans to implement the treaty obligations and to step up implementation efforts to achieve significant progress by the 5th Review Conference.
- Engage countries remaining outside of the treaty to join without delay and take significant steps such as accession by the 5th Review Conference.
- Work towards ambitious new action plan to provide a 5-year road map to put an end to the suffering and casualties of landmines.
Follow the ICBL social media channels and website for updates and announcements.
ICBL statements from the meetings will be available on this page once delivered.
